I hate to admit this, but i’ve never watched the TV show friends. However, when I was asked to review this show, I couldn’t turn it down! So whilst I may not be able to compare directly to the show, I fortunately brought my Friends loving bestie to watch the show with me, so she had prepared me with all the jokes and references before going in. Regardless of my knowledge of the show, I had such a great time and loved the atmosphere that this show created!

The second the show began I was immediately startled by the camera that came on stage, with recordings of the audience on multiple screens on the stage. This truly made you feel as if you were a part of the live audience watching the show. I love the audience participation in the show, making you feel as if you are truly a part of the show.

I didn’t go in totally blind to the show, i’ve seen clips of the characters, and I must say that the actors’ portrayal of them was absolute perfection, they had the mannerisms down to a tee. Monica’s vocals (played by Alicia Belgarde) were sensational!! So stunning and crisp I was in awe.

One of my very few criticisms is that I did find the music rather repetitive, most of the songs just repeated the same phrase over and over, but I found that as the show progressed they got better. Despite this, the time went so quickly, it felt as if the show flew by!!

I also had to mention Edward Leigh who played Gunther, he created such a lovable, sweet character and had me rooting for him the whole time.

There were also so many subtle references to other musicals in the show, which were fun to spot, such as chicago, wicked, rent and more.

I adore the way the storyline of show was laid out, it felt as if you watched multiple episodes of a sitcom in one sitting, instead of one big story it was multiple little stories which kept me so engaged as there was no time for anything to drag out.

Overall, I had such a lovely time at this show, and I’m definitely inspired to watch Friends now. Definitely try and catch this show on tour, whether you’ve watched the show or not!!
