I was fortunate enough to have been invited to the press event for “The Enormous Crocodile” at the Regents Park Open Air Theatre. I had the most incredible time! The show is a musical adaptation of the classic book by Roald Dhal.
The target age demographic for this show was for much younger children, however I still had such an incredible time. Upon arrival I was immediately impressed at the atmosphere that was created for the children. They had childrens songs playing over the speakers and bubble machines, which truly introduced a magical theatre environment for them. In addition to this, each child was given a soft foam peanut which was used during the performance to throw at the crocodile. I adored this use of audience participation as it kept them engaged with the story and made them feel directly involved.

It also had a shorter running time of 55 minutes with no interval. This felt like the perfect length for this show and it was very straight to the point, which I particularly loved. I also loved the interactive nature of the show, the cast come through the audience and interact with the audience through their puppets. This was very immersive and truly felt as if we were in the scenes with them.
Despite being a childrens show, the cast were amazing at keeping the entire audience engaged! Taya Ming played the enormous crocodile and was so so convincing in her performance. I also have to mention the rest of the cast who were absolutely sensational at switching between multiple characters, props and costumes. Their versatility was incredible and left me in awe when watching them come on as somebody new each time.
Overall, this show is such a lovely day out for the entire family. Despite the musical being aimed at a younger audience, it is just as entertaining for the adults as well as the children. It was so hilarious and had everyone giggling from start to finish. It was such a spectacular show for everyone to enjoy!
