The Lightning Thief - Review!

I was super fortunate to have been invited to see the Lightning Thief at the New Wimbledon Theatre for its press night.

I have never read the Percy Jackson series, nor watched it, so I went into this show with 0 prior knowledge of this much loved franchise. Therefore, I can only review based on my experience of the show and cannot compare to its accuracy. This show was my first impression of Percy Jackson, and I was absolutely blown away!!

The entire show was so entertaining and there was not a single dull moment. I loved the storyline as it kept me engaged and constantly eager to find out more.

The use of props and effects in this show was so visually stunning. I particularly loved the creation of the minotaur using multiple people to help create this large figure which was incredible to see. I also loved the ethereal effect that the use of the hoverboard gave, as well as the special effects and tricks such as the pen turning into a sword!

This cast was so incredibly vocally strong. Every single person was sensational! Someone who stood out to me was Simone Robinson who played Sally Jackson and Others. Her vocals were mesmerising and genuinely gave me goosebumps at times. Another person who shone throughout the show was Ellie-Grace Cousins who played Clarisse and Others. With each part she played she constantly positively caught my eye and provided such comedic value to every scene she was in due to her commitment to character (and also her vocals were INSANE)

The entire soundtrack of this show was so catchy and added such value to the show. Every song had importance and was so entertaining to watch.

Overall, even if you haven’t got any prior knowledge of Percy Jackson, this show is so fun to watch and such a great day out for all the family and will keep you all engaged and entertained.
